Mr Rogier Uitenboogaart is a Dutchman, came to Japan in 1980. Since then, he has got big respect and understanding for Japanese culture, and approaches to Washi with academically as well, not like traditional Japanese artisans.
Now, besides Washi making, he teaches Washi at his workshop and university. As a result, many people have been influenced by him.
He makes not only traditional Japanese paper but also Cotton paper-like European. His paper is used in many scenes including the collaboration work with famous architects.
At present, he is an indispensable person for Washi industry.
