Tango, the north part of Kyoto, was one of the oldest paper making districts. A part of it, Futamata village passed the history more than 1,000 years always with the brother shrine of Ise, which is the most important shrine in Shinto.
There are all the required factors for good paper here, ex: Cool Climate, Rich Soil, Clear Water. Papermaking became the major business of Futamata, supported by stable usage demand for the shrine, and also demand in the capital city Kyoto.
Based on the local history and tradition, The Tanaka family is continuously making high-quality paper for the high-level requirement.
