\nOn the other hand, the imported (mainly from Europe and America) product is called “Yo(\u6d0b)-xxx” since around late 19C, like “Yo-shoku(\u6d0b\u98df)=Western Food”, “Yo-fuku(\u6d0b\u670d)=Western clothes”…
\nThis means the word “Washi” has not a long history, papers were just called “Kami(\u7d19)”. After Western paper (“Yo-shi”=\u6d0b\u7d19) came to the Japan market, the word “Washi” was created to distinguish to Western paper.
\nThe single letter \u201d\u7d19\u201d is pronounced “Kami” as alone, if attached with a proper noun, it may change “-Shi” or “-Gami” as below.
